Well, that time is upon us again when we start looking for something unique to buy for the holidays for the special people in our life. If you’ve got anyone in your life who is into the Lost Generation, here are some ideas for you.
Note: Of all of the sites listed below, the only one we have an affiliation with is Bookshop.org. A purchase made through this link will learn as a small commission. The rest of the sites are simply ones that we enjoy and think have cool stuff.
The Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald Museum Store
For anyone like me who loves the works and life of F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, the online store of The Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald Museum is the way to go. Billed as “the only dedicated museum to the lives and legacies of F. Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald in the world,” their online shop has a number of unique items. These include razors found in the bathroom of the Fitzgerald Home that may have belonged to Scott, a daisy locket made with remnants from wallpaper of the home, a mounted remnant of wallpaper from the home, and a postcard set of Zelda’s artwork. This is by no means an exhaustive list of what they have to offer and if you have a Fitzgerald fan in your life, be sure to check the Museum store out.
Out of Print
If you’re a book nerd like us you probably already know about the site Out of Print. Around since 2010, their stated mission is “to spread the joy of reading by transforming literary classics into bookish apparel and accessories.” They cover the whole of the literary world, but for our purposes related to the Lost Generation, there are a few things to highlight: T-shirts of Ernest Hemingway‘s Old Man and The Sea and The Sun Also Rises, and their Great Gatsby collection, which includes T-shirts, a tote bag, pouch, sweatshirt, West Egg pennant, and East & West Egg necklaces. They also have a great George Orwell collection of products related to 1984 and Animal Farm.
I’m sure by now everyone reading this is familiar with Etsy. If you’re looking for something unique on pretty much any subject whatsoever, you’re likely to find it and more in someone’s shop on Etsy. A quick search of “Lost Generation” – brings up a whole host of interesting related products, including T-shirts, used books, mounted literary quotes, author busts, postage stamps, pins, and mugs. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, Etsy’s an easy way to kill several hours where I guarantee you’ll find more and more things that you like.
As I mentioned earlier in this post, we are an affiliate with the site Bookshop.org. Our shop on the site has a number of book lists highlighting some of the best works by members of the Lost Generation. If you’re considering buying books for anyone this year check out this site. Set up as an alternative to Amazon, purchases through their site directly support independent bookshops across the country, along with smalltime affiliates such as us. Especially during these dire economic times, these shops are who need our support, not Amazon. As of this writing they have raised over $8.2 million for local bookstores.
